Signature Assignment
Addressing Stress and Burnout: Self-Care
Target Audience, Specific Issue, and Format
The target audience for this minicourse is healthcare practitioners and professionals. Stress and burnout are pervasive issues among healthcare workers (Abramson, 2022). The minicourse will be asynchronous and will address these issues by demonstrating how to create a mindful moment and reconnect with oneself through hand reflexology. Self-care helps enhance feelings of well-being and keeps us connected to ourselves and reminds us of the things that matter most to us (Jones, 2022). By learning the simple techniques, individuals can take a few minutes during the day when feeling stressed, or as part of a mindfulness practice, to reconnect with themselves and find balance.
Application of Learning Theory
Constructivism
Strengths Limitations
-
Encourages collaboration and peer teaching.
-
Learners have more control over content, which encourages satisfaction and motivation.
-
Creates learning environments that value different cultural and social backgrounds.
-
It addresses learning in the digital age, where knowledge is exponential and fluid.
-
Learners may not have the ability or previous knowledge to properly construct new knowledge, this can lead to confusion and frustration.
-
It is difficult to know if learning outcomes account for everything, especially if the mode of measurement is not conducive to self-reflection.
-
Constructivism relies on instructor engagement and self-reflection, which may not be realistic in a learning setting.
Andragogy
Strengths Limitations
-
Considers needs and common characteristics of adults in the learning process to make learning relevant. For adults, this emphasizes, flexibility, peer-collaboration, goal setting and information useful for solving real-life problems.
-
Emphasizes that adult learning is not the same for everyone.
-
Assumptions do not apply equally to all adult learners since they are diverse with a wide range of experiences.
-
Assumptions do not apply equally to the individual all the time. For example, intrinsic motivation is not guaranteed and not all learners have clear self-direction.
Selected Theory: Andragogy
Andragogy is the better theory for an instructional design approach for the proposed minicourse. The design supports creating a learning process that is flexible and relevant to adults. It also focuses on goal setting and applying information to the real-life issue of stress and burnout.
