Reflection

Alignment to CLO2: Describe the emotional, physical, and physiological responses to stress that occur in the body, and the resulting symptoms, to a client in a therapeutic setting.

The video summarizes 'what stress is,' the phases that correlate to physiological changes in the body, and the stress cycle. This may be review for some, and informative to others, depending on past training. This video prepares learners to discuss the physiological benefits of massage therapy with a client, and for determining appropriate client-centered protocols.

The video illustrates phrases or words that correlate to key concepts in the narrative. The narrative can be pulled from the transcript in YouTube, but closed captioning is an option for any learner who wishes to access it. I utilized PowerPoint to create my presentation, recording a voice over once the content slides were complete. This was convenient because I could add my script to the notes section of the slide for my voice over. Once the recording was complete, I edited the audio for each slide in PowerPoint. Then I created an MP4 file and exported it to YouTube. In YouTube, I edited the closed captioning to correct punctuation and some minor errors.

Since I had never recorded a video, or uploaded to YouTube, figuring out the process was overall challenging. I feel like the process will be smoother next time. The biggest challenge going forward will be finding methods for using my voice, which is soft and falls below the decibel range for people with hearing challenges. Also, even though feel like I am being animated, my voice pattern is often described as “mellow.” It is something I am aware of and can accommodate for in-person because I can receive feedback on whether learners can hear me, and learners can engage with my personality.
