Animation Minicourse Video
Reflection
Alignment to:
-
CLO3: Explain the benefits of massage therapy for stress reduction at an appropriate health literacy level for a client.
-
CLO4: Design a client-specific massage protocol to address the complaint of stress with secondary complaint areas and relative contraindications.
The animation video focuses on the therapeutic relationship, significant to creating a safe and trusting relationship with the client. This is essential as an LMT overall, but in this module it is significant to openly dialogue with the client about health history and goals. This helps the LMT develop an appropriate client protocol for a primary goal of stress, with secondary complaints. If the secondary complaints are contraindicated, or would exacerbate the overall issue of stress for the client, then a different decision must be made.
Meeting accessibility standards was pretty straight forward. The animation did not have a narrative, it was a short video with key points. I created a corresponding transcript for the closed-captioning. The transcript provided additional context but was not a duplicate of the key concepts. It did not provide new information.
I used Powtoon to create the animation video. It was not difficult to use, if you didn't change the templates too much. If you did make a lot of changes the animation wouldn't work right. The difficult thing with using Powtoon as a free version is the limited access to templates and images. Also, like with any of these free tools, it is difficult to know what complications you will run into as you go. For example, with the free version of Powtoon, you cannot narrate your video and you cannot download an MP4. There are workarounds for our assignments, but because these are not always clear up front sometimes, they may cause issues with what you want or need to do.
